Pope Francis speaks a lot about letting Jesus out, about the danger of being self-referential, when we really should be breaking out of that mode and avoiding a country club or bunker model of church. Our Holy Father is telling us we need to be beacons of Jesus’s light and go meet the world where it lives, not staying in a church building or even among churchy people. All the activities of the Body of Christ should be ordered to mission. After all, everyone needs to hear the good news of Jesus Christ.
The charisms and gifts of the Holy Spirit necessary to carry out this apostolic do not manifest until faith becomes a friendship with the person of Jesus, but they are there by virtue of our baptism and confirmation. You are already equipped. Just surrender yourself to the Lord and He will work through you.
Remember it’s not about you. It’s about Him.
