The birth of the church is described in the account of Pentecost from the book of Acts, “And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled the house where they were sitting and there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.” This is the same Holy Spirit presence of God that was so thick it barred entrance to the Tent of Meeting in the desert and overwhelmed Solomon’s priests at the inauguration of the First Temple. This very same spirit gave the Prophets their message and empowered great miracles. This same spirit of power breathes through the very fabric of our lives.

In Acts chapter eight, a pagan sorcerer named Simon Magus is so impressed and astonished by the signs and miracles wrought by the disciples that he offers them money in exchange for this Holy Spirit that moves them. When was the last time someone was astounded by the power of the Holy Spirit manifest in you? Yet, this is the norm for all Christians. Through baptism and confirmation, we receive the Holy Spirit who then equips us for mission with ordinary and extraordinary graces and gifts necessary for the building of the kingdom. These graces and gifts will be dormant in our lives unless we call upon the Holy Spirit to animate them. Invite the Holy Spirit into your life today and believe that he will work powerfully in and through you. Come Holy Spirit and kindle the hearts of your faithful. Send forth your spirit, and they shall be

What will you allow Him to do through you today?
