“And I say also to you, that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” This passage from Matthew describes the commission of Peter given to him at Banias, ancient Caesarea Philippi, before the great rock of the pagan shrine, known to be one of the gates of the underworld. Realizing that the gates of hell have it in for us may give us pause, but no one has ever been attacked by a gate. It’s a defensive measure. The prince of this world is on the defensive, which means that we are on the offensive. The gates of hell will not pursue us, rather we, the Church Militant, will attack the gates to set the captives free. We are already equipped and commissioned to raid and poach in Satan’s territory and rescue souls out from under him. Are you ready for the task at hand?
